A Safe Place

A Safe Place offers low-barrier, after-hours and weekend services to marginalized women and their children experiencing precarious housing, food insecurity, and/or mental ill health in Whitehorse.

The program targets marginalized women and their children. Program participants are provided facilitated drop-in programming and a hot nutritious meal. Skilled staff responds to the needs expressed by participants, provide referrals to other services and supports, and help coordinate program services.

The goals of A Safe Place are:

• To provide housing insecure Whitehorse women and their children with a safe place when other supportive agencies are closed or felt to be unsafe.
• To provide Whitehorse women and their children with a hot, nutritious meal when other supportive agencies are closed or are felt to be unsafe.
• To establish trust with women facing homelessness and/or mental ill health in a safer women-only space and provide links to other agencies which provide support/services to Whitehorse women who have fallen through the cracks.
